Call for Papers
- Please note that the deadline for our Call for Papers has already passed! -
The organizers of the 2012 Postgraduate Forum of the German Association for American Studies (DGfA/GAAS) at the Department of English and North American Studies Marburg call for submissions to this year’s annual conference.
The Postgraduate Forum (PGF) of the German Association for American Studies (DGfA/GAAS) is a venue for all young scholars working in American Studies who have completed their MA (or equivalent) to discuss their work and meet their peers. The 2012 PGF will be hosted by the Department of English and North American Studies, North American Literary and Cultural Studies at the Philipps-Universität Marburg from November 2–4, 2012.
During this three-day conference, young scholars in the field can present their current research – such as doctoral work, essay projects, or Habilitationsschriften – as work in progress and debate it with the group. There is no topical restriction and we welcome contributions from various disciplines such as the study of American culture, literature, media, history, and politics. Presentations must not exceed 20 minutes in order to enable a ten-minute discussion afterwards. We invite you to submit an abstract of 200-300 words by July 16, 2012. In addition, proposals should include a brief biographical statement speaking to your academic background, your university affiliation, your research interests, and the current status of your project. We would like to especially encourage young researchers who have little or no conference experience to present their current research. Selected contributions will be published in the online journal COPAS (Current Objectives of Postgraduate American Studies).
Speakers will be required to send two-page summaries of their papers by October 15, 2011. These summaries will be sent to all participants prior to the conference.
A (preliminary) program including information on the conference locales and possible accommodation options will be available on our website.
We kindly ask that all participants (presenting and non-presenting) register no later than October 1, 2012, using the online form on our website:
